A few words from Matt...

"My interest in aesthetics led me to complete my injectables and botulinum toxin training in London, which has allowed me to diversify away from my traditional area of clinical practice and utilise existing medical and nursing skills. For treatments, I use the leading brand products for optimum results. I am fully insured and offer a review for all patients approximately 2 weeks after treatment. My aim is to make you feel amazing. I have dedicated my entire career to the wellbeing of patients in the NHS and I strive to do the same for my aesthetics clients."

"It’s more than just about injections to me — it’s a chance for people to feel their best. I offer a variety of treatments, and use proven techniques to help enhance your natural look.

At REMEDI MEDISPA Matt & Amy work alongside each other supporting their clients with injectable treatments and other advanced skin rejuvenation technologies to have them looking & feeling their best!

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Botox is an abbreviated term that actually refers to Botulinum Toxin.

Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxin that is made by the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum, anaerobic bacteria found in natural settings, soil, lakes and forests. Botulinum Toxin is purified for clinical use and cosmetic use and is split into 7 serotypes. This is done by their difference in potency and duration of action.

Botulinum Toxin Type A is the most potent of serotypes and is used for clinical and cosmetic purposes.

HOW DO ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS WORK?

Once Botulinum Toxin is injected into the muscle, the mechanism and action is to cause temporary muscle paralysis. The procedure essentially aims to relax and paralyse muscle tissue in order to prevent the undesired effect many currently experience; this may be in the form of cosmetic concerns or to alleviate the effects of certain medical conditions.

The solution is injected in extremely small concentrations and works by preventing signals from the nerve cells reaching the muscles – resulting in the paralysis.

This is achieved by the Botulinum Toxin preventing the release of a chemical messenger: acetylcholine. This chemical is exchanged between the nerves and muscles and blocks the muscles from contracting.

    SIDE EFFECTS

Anti-wrinkle injections should NOT be administered to those that have had a previous negative reaction to the drug and any of its ingredients.

Generally, the injections are well received and accepted by the body, as the consultation will have determined the right course of action. However, individuals may find themselves with a genetic predisposition that can have a mild response from the drug.

    Some potential side effects include:

  • Local oedema (fluid build-up)
  • Erythema (reddening of the skin) at the site of the injection
  • Numbness
  • Headache
  • Mild nausea
  • Neck weaknes
  • Flu-like symptoms

  • CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR TREATMENT

Your Aesthetic therapist reserves the right to decline treatment if they feel you are not a suitable candidate or well enough to recieve treatment. This is to ensure we work to a high safety standard and to fully protect your safety.

    Some of the reasons we may decline treatment are listed below;

  • Those with a known hypersensitivity to Botulinum Toxin Type A or to any of its ingredients
  • Neuromuscular disorders; myasthenia gravid or Eaton Lambert Syndrome
  • Pregnancy and/or breastfeeding
  • Co-treatment with Aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g. Gentamicin/Neomycin and Roaccutane) or any medicinal products that interfere with neuromuscular transmission.
  • Inflammation or infection

  • CAUTIONS FOR TREATMENT

  • Those who suffer with coagulation disorders or if they're using anticoagulants. This is due to the fact that there is an increased likelihood of bruising. Aspirin, high dosage vitamin E and high dosage omega oils should all be stopped for at least 7 days prior to the treatment to minimise bruising.

  • POST TREATMENT CARE

  • No rubbing or massaging of the injected area for 4 hours after treatment, including facials.
  • No strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment
  • Keep upright for 4 hours — no lying on your front. Avoid activities such as shoe shopping
  • Avoid headwear that is tightly fitted across the forehead
  • Avoid excessive alcohol or medically necessary blood thinning medication before the treatment to prevent bruising
  • Drink plenty of fluids this will help hydrate the body and if the patient has a headache after the treatment.
  • It is also recommended to wait 24 hours before attempting any strenuous exercise, including:

  • Weight training
  • Cross training
  • Long distance running
  • Yoga (positions where the body is inverted)
